Our Vision
BRIM is Building Resilience in Mission: A Transition Town Initiative. We’re a fledgling group with a big dream:
“To transform the District of Mission from a fossil-fuel-dependent society into a resilient, sustainable, re-localized, vibrant community that treads lightly on the earth.”
With Optimism
We’re working towards a cleaner, greener, more localised community, but we’re not shaking fingers or carrying fists. Instead, we’re rolling up our sleeves, joining our hands and striving to inspire, enthuse, and focus on possibilities. What can we create together?
We Believe
We believe that life can be even better post-petroleum and we’re working hard to lay the foundations for a secure future by making our community more sustainable and resilient.
Mission can have :
- A secure and sustainable local food supply,
- A thriving and sustainable local economy,
- A rich culture bolstered by traditional skills and mutual support, and
- The basic needs of all citizens met.
Indeed, life here can be even better, though we have:
- Reduced our dependence on fossil fuels,
- Radically reduced the community’s carbon footprint,
- Adopted the principle of “Enough”, and
- There is little or no waste!
What We’re Doing
We’re working towards increased resilience and a reduced carbon footprint by raising awareness and planning community projects.
With your help, we’re also building a network of people and organizations. Want to get involved too? We’re pulling together groups to work together in many areas, such as:
- Food security and soil health,
- Local economy and sourcing of daily needs,
- Reducing energy requirements,
- Rebuilding lost human skills, and
- Building community connectedness.
Our final goal is to craft an Energy Descent Plan, preparing Mission to
function (and thrive!) with little or no access to fossil fuels.
